Simple Keyboard control within FXC

Postby Gilbert » 04 Mar 2010, 12:40

Hi!

I want to change the appearance of a FXC by switching nodes via keyboard. My approach was:
Mixer with Direct Switching: "Jump node #x": Playlist-> Button x
Configure Keymapper "Simulate Button #" (designate a key)

Apparently it doesn't work this way, and I can't find something called "Interactivity" as mentioned here in the forums.

Any pointers? Thanks!!!

Keymapper is used to control a show, these keys will not appear within the variables window of a FXC. To use keys inside a FXC you need to load the interactivity controller. file/configure/engine/drivers, click add and select the interactivity controller. Once you have it loaded you can configure it, enable keyboard and add keys.

Ahh, so the interactivity thing is a controller! Very good, I guess I will manage from here, thank you! Can't wait to get back to my laptop to figure out the rest :)

It's also used to map a joystick and mouse, hence the interactivity :)

Thanks, it works, I now have quadrupled my set, changing fore and background individually. I use the Mixer, I can set a transition time there, but it won't crossfade unfortunately. Is there an alternative or did I oversee something?

Double click the mixer node, to bring up the configure menu, select a transition, number of input nodes and more.

Done those, selected crossfade, but the button press gives me a switch, which is sub-optimal...
And I assume I have to select "Direct Switching", because I don't have the keyboard controllers in the others.

Perhaps your key trigger is not acting as a switch. You need to tick the small square box under "switch" in the variables window. If not you send out two signals, one when the key is pressed and a second when the key is released.

Yay! Will try, thx! I haven't yet understood the "Virtual Beat" Switch thing yet, because I am very pleased with my results already without it. I work heavily with AVIs and get all the variety I can imagine. Maybe it's time now for more imagination ;)

My latest. As texture of the blob I had a high contrast movie, for filesize reasons it's just a fog now.
Keyboard 1-4 toggle the effect, 5 is a strobe effect for manual accentuation, as I call it. Any suggestions as of optimizing etc.?

Thank you very much! Sounds really good from a "Professional VJ" ;) Actually this is my first feedback composition, I am astonished how easy and versatile that is. Unfortunately my laptop is old and weak, I am fps-limited in my work, but that makes it more demanding.
I have made a good dozen so far, for my first "exhibitions" I'll mix mine with the "default" compositions, they're great and very diverse. My Videomixer is much obliged!
