Newbie VJ - Questions about VJ

Postby aNzI » 10 Mar 2010, 23:31

Hello guys, I just started to use VisualJockey - Gold, and I would like to ask you guys if you could help me in some issues that im having with the program.

- Ive read in the sticky topic that in order to VJ to "listen" to music you need to have your Stereos Mix enabled on your PC, unfortunatly I cant enable it, so my first question is: Can you use an mp3 or wave file and insert them inside VJ while making video effects at the same time, like on Windows Movie Maker (I know that both programs are diferent) timeline when you drag and drop sound files to listen to them has you edit videos?

- Ive read the "Help/Tutorial" window on the VisualJockey program, but I think its outdated because when they say that I have to add Drivers to the programs they reffere some that I just cant find, and I think that's one of the main problems that doesnt let the program to "listen" to the music that i'm using. Any tips on how to add the drivers? Currently I have the following drives added: "Gestal Control", "Gestal Screen" and "Sound Analyser".

- The funny thing on these 2 issues is that when im listenning to music the Db level window (bottom center of the program with the "Sound Analyser" icon next to it to the right) moves with the sound, but the effects that I use dont react to the music, ive used the "Flower Power" effect with the 3D effect of "Raytracing" and nothing happends.

Sorry for the long topic, but I really need some help on these issues, so I can really start working with VisualJockey, I promised a friend of mine that I would help im out on a mini show has a VJ, and I really like some videos that ive been seeing on Youtube, it looks alot of fun to do it.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give :D

If you see the Db meeter reacting to audio being played on the computer, than sound is coming into VJO. What you need to figure out is how you will get VJO hear the sound from a microphone input. That is what you will be using for the gig. So for making tests your current situation is good, just make sure you know how to make it work with external sound sources (either the mic in or line in)

If you want anything to react to sound in VJO you need to configure it first. You do this by, right click the node you wish to configure and select "variables". The drop down menu on the top selects the variable you will control. The left side of the window are your controllers, for audio generated data, you need to "expand gestalt" sound or "system audio", select one of the options and "add" it. In the middle is a monitor showing a curve that is generated by the sound analyzer. On the right side there are parameters ti tune the curve. In general this window is the guts of VJO control, all the sliders and knobs for the node you are configuring are here.

I hope this helps.

You can modify the flower power trough right click/configure menu. The gallery has a lot of examples of computer generated visuals, thats the best place to start looking and modifying.

Well just to give you guys a heads up about the gig I was going to participate went a little bad XD

I was able to VJ for a while, while my friend passed some songs has a DJ, but unfortunatly the projector that I was using got an overheating problem and I couldnt do anything for the rest of the night XD So there you go, my 30 minutes of fame were great until the disaster XD

Yet I feel more confident to use VJ more offten
